I have wanted to write this note to you for over a month, but my words have been overcome with grief and I never knew exactly what to say. From the bottom of my heart, I am truly sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine the pain you as a family are experiencing, but you have been-and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sami was my best friend, and he meant the absolute world to me. Sami taught me so many great lessons in life, and those lessons I will forever cherish. Sami taught me the true meaning of friendship and unconditional love. I find peace and comfort in knowing that he will always be a part of my life and he will continue to shape the person I grow to be every day.

Most importantly, I want to thank you. I want to thank you for raising Sami to be the most incredible man I have ever known. With his outgoing personality, Sami made friends everywhere he went. He had a heart of gold and the most infectious smile. He grew to be such a great man, and I am forever thankful for you, his family, for raising him to be so kind and humble.

I hope one day I will meet you so that I can thank you in person, but I want to send my condolences and let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I’m in Europe for 20 days! I’m taking a maymester trip with Belmont University featuring the best of the Balkans. We left Nashville yesterday and flew into JFK in New York. We then proceeded to take a red eye from JFK to Prague and arrived this morning at 10…3 am Nashville time, and I thought it was funny cuz people were still tweeting their late night adventures.

We met our tour guide leading the trip after getting our luggage and adventured off to get our bus and head out to Salzburg.

It was loooong drive and we were so tired…but we have arrived and about to partake in authentic Austrian meal of pork, potatoes, something else I don’t know and red wine.

When I find wifi I’ll be able to update on my adventures.

I broke down, Iam to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do. But there is evidence from various different studies that, on average, this isn’t true: Participants who were given$5 or $20 to spend on another person were happier than those who spent it on themselves (Dunn et al., 2008). People who spend greater proportions of their income on giving to others or to charity are happier than those who spend it on themselves (Dunn et al., 2008). Canadian and Ugandan students who thought back to times they’d been generous to others were happier than those thinking back to money they’d spent on themselves (Aknin et al., 2010). And we haven’t even taken into account how happy it makes the recipient.
